Since the 1960s, my work has made use of imagery derived from nature forms and housed in a formalized structure. Over years the format has changed, becoming less structured and more spatial. The concept of journeying spirit was added. In this exhibition a hybrid image, the Navigator, traverses the field: time, life, the universe, etc.
The figurative image, its proportion, its gesture, its movements, its emotional statement, etc., is the subject of some of these pieces.
A time comes when almost everything one thinks and does is done in retrospective. The need to BE is never satisfied, continues to make its claim, to exact its tribute, while the “I” must struggle simply to continue.
“I will go on,” a Samuel Beckett character said. He walked away thinking and rebuilding, remembering and rebuilding. He walked away carrying a heavy heart and a frustration of the mind. The past had become so much longer than the future… and he carried it with him wanting to believe that he carried a treasure.
